Why use ITO on plastic?

ITO (Indium Tin Oxide) is a transparent substance that can carry an electric charge. It can be applied as a clear coating offering a multitude of applications across a range of industries.

ITO initially could only be deposited onto a glass substrate due to the required minimum deposition temperature of 190° C (not ideal for plastic for obvious reasons).

Our cutting-edge technology, research and years of experience allowed us to develop a new vacuum-based deposition method at much lower temperatures. This in turn led to successful deposition onto a range of plastics.

Plastic can be viewed as superior to glass for a number of reasons. For instance, it is lighter, tougher and more cost effective to produce.

We now offer a full range of ITO Plastic. Substrates available in our range include Polycarbonate, Acrylic and Polyester Film. Our ITO coated acrylics and polycarbonates can also be supplied with additional coatings, including anti reflective and scratch resistant coatings.

ITO Plastic Applications

We mentioned above that ITO coatings in general have a huge range of applications, and this also extends to ITO plastic. Industries utilising Indium Tin Oxide plastic include the military and defence, Space, aerospace and the automotive sectors, retail displays and consumer technology.

Our anti reflective coatings on plastic was heavily utilised in recent months due to the pandemic. Although this has been an unintended use of our products, we are proud at how fast we reacted to the situation and produced several products that we feel offered great assistance to literally thousands of people.

Our anti reflective face shields have been a huge benefit to the medical industry and our anti reflective covid screens have helped make things more bearable in customer facing scenarios, such as retail environments.

Prior to this, in more normal times, art galleries and museums throughout the world have benefitted from showcasing their artwork with optimal clarity with the benefit of zero reflections on glass or display cases.

If you would like to find out more about the applications of ITO plastic or have any queries about your specific requirements, please get in touch with us. We would be delighted to assist in any way we can.
