Why use Interactive Touch Film?

Imagine if you could turn any surface into an interactive touchscreen with touch capability…  Guess what? You can!

Although there are some caveats to the above statement, certainly any screen already in use can be enhanced with touch functionality. This technology is being used more and more in a variety of applications, most notably digital signage that might benefit from touch based options for the user.

Interactive Touch Film – How does it work?

By utilising Indium Tin Oxide on thin PET film, films can become electrically conductive. As a human touch is conductive, the change in charge on touch allows the film to become interactive. Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) is both transparent and electrically conductive and when deposited onto a transparent film, the surface uses the electric signals to deliver the touchscreen capabilities.

Creating an interactive display using an existing screen is now very possible and has led to a rise in demand and applications.

Some applications would be vending and arcade machines, interactive whiteboards, industrial and large-scale touchscreens, retail store displays, public transport environments, museums and so much more.

The next time you are in a public environment with a heavy footfall, look around you. We guarantee it will not be long before you spot an interactive display that might use ITO PET films to provide the touch capability.

One use we really like is an interactive wayfinder display. Rather than just looking at how to get from A to B, you can input your ‘B’ location and the wayfinder map will highlight the best route for you to travel – it’s the little things that enrich and make life simpler.

Interactive touch films also offer multiple touch locations, so a number of users can use at the same time, with different results shown based on each touch – especially useful in a public environment and great for driving interest and user engagement.

A newer concept for these films is a table top screen within a restaurant. Gone are the days of looking at menus with images (and in our opinion, if you are in a restaurant with an image rich menu, you should run…). Instead, the table at which you are going to have a meal at is also a digital screen showing both menu, pricing and exciting videos of dishes. The ability to click on this tabletop screen and see more information or to order is a really fun interactive experience.
