The Properties & Applications of PET Film
An either bubble extruded or biaxially oriented thermoplastic polymer, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film – or polyester film, as it is commonly one of the converting industry’s most commonly used substrates.
Offering a balance of properties that make it preferable to varying other thermoplastic polymers, polyester film is, in comparison with alternative thermoplastic substrates, equal and, in many cases, superior in terms of:
- Density, elongation & dimensional stability
- Tear & tensile strength
- Service temperature range, melting point & oxygen permeability
- Insulation breakdown, water (vapour) transmission rate & dielectric constant
