PET (polyethylene terephthalate), also known as Polyester film is one of the most widely used substrates within the converting industry. This is because of a number of reasons, the most important being their strength and versatility.
PET film is utilised in the production of tamper evident films, anti-microbial films, surface protection and packaging. It is easily machined allowing it to be used in vacuum coating and laminating situations, to name two of the most common applications.
ITO Film
Taking PET film one step further is by applying an ITO (Indium Tin Oxide) coating. ITO provides a transparent finish but also offers the element of conductivity.
A conductive, transparent film that is suitable for many applications in industries including transport, medical, entertainment and military.
What is ITO Film used for?
Some touchscreens utilise ITO film due to its strength and robustness. Retail and transport industries (ticketing kiosks, for instance) may use ITO film in their touchscreen displays to provide the touch command.
ITO films can also be used in retail display environments and Liquid Crystal Devices (LCDs) as well as Electrophoretic Displays (EPDs). Flexible printed circuits utilise ITO film due to the conductivity of the film. Indium Tin Oxide films are also perfect for EMI/RFI shielding: electronic displays that require effective shielding whilst retaining optical clarity benefit greatly from ITO film.
Electroluminescent lamps, transparent heaters and membrane switches also utilise ITO film to great effect.
