What plastic coatings are available?

Plastic is such a wonderful product, available in different formats such as polycarbonates, acrylics and thin PET films. Easily manipulated and formed, plastic has become an integral part of our lives. It is worth mentioning, important actually, that most plastics can and should be recycled – but we all know that…

With plastic being so versatile, it comes as no surprise that there are many coating options available, such as powder coating and visual / textural qualities such as a leather look, as an example. However, our plastic coatings are different to the normal and offer something quite impressive.

Electrically Conductive Plastic

See? We said impressive! When you think about plastic with the ability to carry an electric charge you may be forgiven for thinking why? But conductive plastic has many uses, some that you probably even used within the last 24 hours…

ITO Coated Plastic

ITO (indium Tin oxide) is a clear substance that can be applied to plastics. ITO is also highly conductive, which has led to a huge number of applications in today’s world. Touch screens and OLED displays are two strong examples of ITO plastic in action.

Hard Coated Plastic

Although plastics are reasonably robust, everything has a breaking point. By applying a hard coat, the plastic becomes tougher, stronger and longer lasting. This hard coat can also be applied to the above ITO coatings, which works particularly well with customer facing touchscreens and those that are a little heavy handed.

Anti-Reflective Plastic

Up until 2 years ago, anti-reflective plastic was primarily useful for retail displays and displaying works of art in museums and galleries throughout the world. Then, the world changed.

Now, anti-reflective plastic has come into its own (sadly), helping to make everyday life a little more bearable. Anti-Covid screens have been used mostly in extremely well-lit areas, with added reflection. By applying an anti-reflective coating (or an anti-reflective PET film) to these screens, there is now no longer a glare on either side of the screen – every little helps I guess…

Diamond Coatings actually went a step further and at the start of the pandemic produced a range of anti-reflective face shields, which have proved to be particularly useful for the medical industry as well as members of the general public.
